Globecast IBC 2021 Preview Globecast is taking the opportunity to explore and explain its fresh market approach across key sectors at IBC 2021: OTT, remote production and media supply chains, including cloud playout. Globecast will highlight key partners with whom it’s working to create these winning ecosystems and will feature them prominently on its stand.

Globecast’s end-to-end OTT integrated service

Globecast has been active in the OTT space for many years with its TV Everywhere OTT services for linear FTA channels. This year has seen the company significantly expand its OTT solution portfolio with an end-to-end integrated service offering, optimising both business and technical approaches. The company is partnering with a range of technology suppliers depending on market sector, providing bespoke services to satisfy each unique business case, integrating a rich ecosystem of partners combined with Globecast’s extensive expertise. This allows customers to maximise content monetisation across multiple screens. It is concentrating on key market sectors: telcos, broadcasters, sports rights holders and other live event organisers. The company has already announced a partnership with Viaccess-Orca and MainStreaming for OTT solution development.

Media Supply Chain featuring 4K cloud playout and Globecast Managed Cloud Network 2.0

Expanding upon its heralded global media supply chain expertise, Globecast is highlighting two key developments at IBC2021: Best-in-class, cost-effective live 4K playout; and significant updates to its sport-oriented Managed Cloud Network with the launch of version 2.0.

Globecast has long held a market-leading playout position and is now recognised as the leader in cloud playout. At IBC 2021, the company is unveiling its new 4k live channel cloud playout capabilities, a significant advance for the industry. Using a leading cloud service provider alongside its own in-house cloud MAM, Orchestrator, Globecast now allows its customers to take full advantage of cloud OPEX models for live 4K playout, with the inherent fast time to market and service flexibility. This includes the cost-effective and increasingly popular creation of pop-up channels.

Globecast has also significantly enhanced its Managed Cloud Network (MCN) solution, tailored for sports broadcasters and rights holders, with the launch of version 2.0. Globecast MCN allows customers to add value to an event to which they have bought rights by facilitating highly cost-effective, secure, cloud-based distribution of additional content. It means affiliates can air content specific to each affiliate without the additional cost of more fibre or satellite capacity. Version 2.0 now includes integration direct from the venue site to affiliates, removing any connectivity hurdles, providing a complete end-to-end solution. Through Orchestrator, customers have easy access to controlling which affiliates receive specific content based on rights purchasing. It also now includes support for the open-source and very popular SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) protocol alongside existing Zixi protocol support.

Remote Production Connectivity

Globecast has worked across 2021 on its remote production offering, in close cooperation with a number of customers, and has developed a range of remote production and commentary services. The company, with its comprehensive global connectivity solutions – satellite, fibre, cloud and public internet – can provide bespoke, failsafe connectivity to support remote productions of all types, or parts of a production that are remote. Globecast provides low-latency, high-capacity, premium reliable connectivity, vital for any remote production, from the site out to wherever the production is happening. This is a ground-up approach from the company using its well-known heritage with years of expertise. It recently announced a partnership with Gravity Media to support customers at next year’s major soccer tournament, providing end-to-end contribution, connectivity and production services.

Executives will be available at the show to provide demonstrations and customers examples across the company’s offerings.
